A body moves from rest from a point A. it moves to another point B in 10s, the motion being accelerated one and achieves a velocity 60m/s at B.it then moves on to C with the uniform velocity for 20s when it is immediately brought to rest . draw a graph showing the complete motion and calculate the total distance travelled?

The total distance traveled by car is 1800 meters.

GIVEN

Time is taken from point A to B = 10sec

Velocity at point B = 60m/s

Time is taken from point B to C = 20sec

TO FIND

Total distance traveled by car.

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows -

Please Refer To The Picture For The Graph.

To plot a velocity-time graph of the motion of the car.

The time is plotted on the positive X-axis and velocity is plotted on the positive Y-axis.

We know that,

The area covered by the velocity time graph is equal to the distance covered by the body in one-dimensional motion.

So, Area of the graph = Area of triangle ABP + Area of rectangle BCQP + Area of triangle QCD.

 = \frac{1}{2} \times 10 \times 60 + 20 \times 60 + \frac{1}{2} 10 \times 60

=1800 meters.

Hence, The total distance traveled by car is 1800 meters.
