Answer
Average Speed is 10 m/s
Given
- A body moves with a uniform speed and covers a distance of 20 meters in 2 seconds and 30 meters in the next 3 seconds
To Find
- Average Speed
Solution
Distance , D₁ = 20 m
Time , T₁ = 2 s
⇒ Speed = Distance / Time
⇒ S₁ = 20 / 2 = 10 m/s
Distance , D₂ = 30 m
Time , T₂ = 3 s
⇒ S₂ = 30 / 3
⇒ S₂ = 10 m/s
Average speed is defined as , " Total distance covered per total time "
⇒ As = D₁ + D₂ / T₁ + T₂
⇒ As = 20 + 30 / 2 + 3
⇒ As = 50 / 5
⇒ As = 10 m/s
( or )
As = ( 2 * S₁ * S₂ ) / ( S₁ + S₂ )
⇒ As = ( 2 * 10 * 10 ) / ( 10 + 10 )
⇒ As = 200 / 20
⇒ As = 10 m/s
