Solution :

Given :

▪ Velocity of body at the top = 5mps

▪ Velocity of body at the bottom = 20mps

▪ Time interval = 3s

To Find :

▪ Acceleration of the body.

Concept :

✒ Acceleratio is defined as the ratio of change in velocity to the time interval.

✒ It is a vector quantity.

✒ It has both magnitude as well as direction.

✒ Since acceleration is constant throughout the whole journey we can apply equation of kinematics directly.

✒ First equation of kinematics is given by

a = (v - u)/t

  • a denotes acceleration
  • v denotes final velocity
  • u denotes initial velocity
  • t denotes time interval

Calculation :

→ a = (v - u)/t

→ a = (20-5)/3

→ a = 15/3

a = 5m/s^2
