So we have v, u and s and we need a(acceleration).
=>Hence we use v^2 = u^2 + 2as
=>0 = 10^2 + 2×a×10
=>(-100) = 20×a
=>a = (-100/20)
=>a = (-5) m/s^2
negative sign shows that it is retardation.
Hence your answer is 5 m/s^2.
When the question asks retardation then, only write the magnitude but if it asks acceleration then write with negative sign to show that it is acting in opposite direction and hence retarding the object.
