So, A/Q
Case 1
s= u*t1 +1/2*a*(t1)²
=>84 = u*6 +1/2*a*6²
=>84 = 6u + 18a
=> 6*12 = 6(u+3a)
=> u +3a = 12. ------------(I)
Case 2
s=u*t2 + 1/2*a*(t2)²
=> 264 = u*11 + 1/2* a* 11²
=> 264 = 11u + 121/2 *a
=>11 * 24 = 11(u + 11*a/2)
=> u + 11*a/2 = 24. -----------(ii)
Sub (I) from (ii)
11*a/2 - 3a = 24-12
=>5a/2 = 12
=> a = 12*2/5 = 4.8m/s
From (I)
u + 3*4.8 = 12
=> u = 12-14.4
=> u = -2.4 m/s
Hence, the acceleration of the body is 4.8 m/s, whereas the initial velocity of the body is -2.4m/s, i.e., the body was retarding in the opposite direction.
