(a)

Given,

m - 0.25 kg

u = 12 m/s

F = 0.6 N

v = 0 m/s

t = ?

F = m.a

0.6 = 0.25 x a

a = 0.6/0.25 = 2.4 m/s2

Since the object is coming to stop, the acceleration is actually retardation and hence it is negative

a = - 2.4 m/s2

a = (v - u)/t

t = (v-u)/a = (0 - 12) / (-2.4) = 5 sec

Hence the time take to stop the body is 5 seconds

(b) Impuse = Force applied x time

= 0.6 N x 5 s  = 3 Ns or 3 kg m/s

Hence, the impulse is 3 Ns or 3 kg m/s
