To lift a body the applied on it must be ≥mg

where m is mass of body

g is acceleration due to gravity

Work done = Force x Displacement

Let's take Force =mg

and g=10

Work Done = 100(10) x 1meter

= 1000 Joules

Given :-

  • A body of mass 100kg is lifted up a height of 1m. Calculate the work done

Solution :-

  • We know that, work done =  F.s

→ Here, s = h as we are raising the body to some height

      → F = mg

     ⇒ Work done = mgh

  • Now, let us substitute the values

       ⇒ Work done = 100 × 9.8 × 1 = 980 J

The work done is 980 J
