by the law of conservation of momentem
mv + m'v' = (m+m')v'
mv + 0 = (m+m')v'
mv/(m+m') = v'
v' = 15/8 = 1.875

initial velocity (u) = 3 m/s
final velocity (v) = v
mass of body 2 = 3kg
initial velocity (u) = 0 (at rest)
final velocity (v) = v
m1 u1 + m2 u2 = m1 v1 + m2 v2
5×3 + 3×0 = 5×v + 3×v
15+0 = 8v
v = 15/8
v = 1.88 m/s
