Body of mass M is kept on a rough surface with friction coefficient u.

vertical force on body = Mg

Horizontal force will vary from 0 to uMg depending on how much horizontal force is applied by the person.

When horizontal force is 0, Force on body by surface = √[(Mg)^2 + 0^2] = Mg

When horizontal force is uMg, force on body by surface = √[(Mg)^2 + (uMg)^2] = Mg√(1+u^2)

So F lies between Mg and Mg√(1+u^2)

Answer is C.
