SOLUTION

in collision, final velocity of 1st body

v1 =  \: ( \frac{m1 - m2}{m1 \: m2 \: } ) \: u1 \:  +  \:  \frac{2 \: m2 \: u \: 2 \: }{m1 \: m2 \: }

given; M¹ = m, u¹ = v, m ² = 2m , u² = 0

because

v1 \:  =    - \frac {v }{3}  \\ intial \: ke \: .e1 \frac{1}{2}   {mv}^{2}

and final K.E ,,

 {e}^{2}  =  \frac{1}{2} m \: ( \frac{ - v}{3}  {}^{2} ) =  \frac{1}{9} ( \frac{1}{2} )

loss ∆ E = E¹ - E²

e =  \frac{1}{2} mv  {}^{2}  -  \frac{1}{9} ( \frac{1}{2} mv {}^{2} ) \\

e \:  =  \frac{8}{9} ( \frac{1}{2} mv {}^{2} ) \\  =  > e =  \frac{8}{9}
