A body starts from rest and moves with uniform acceleration. If it acquire a velocity of 80 m/s in 20 second,find the distance covered by it in 20 second

wajahatAmjad: Using 1st equation of motion,
Vf=vi+at
a=(vf-vi)/t=(80-0)/20=4m/s.s
Now using 3rd equation of motion,
2aS=(vf.vf)-(vi.vi)
2(4)S=(80×80)-(0×0)
8S=6400
S=6400/8=800m

Question :

A body starts from rest and moves with uniform acceleration. If it acquire a velocity of 80 m/s in 20 seconds,find the distance covered by it in 20 second .

Here we have :

  • InitiaI veIocity (u) = 0 m/s  [As it starts from rest]
  • FinaI veIocity (v) = 80 m/s
  • Time (t) = 20 s

So we have to find distance covered in 20 seconds.

For that we wiII use 1st equation of motion at first to find acceIeration (a) :

⇔ v = u + at

⇒ 80 = 0 + a × 20

⇒ 80 = 20a

⇒ a = 80/20

⇒ a = 4 m/s²

Now we wiII use 2nd equation of motion to find distance covered :

⇔ s = ut + 1/2 at²

⇒ s = 0 × 20 + 1/2 × 4 × (20)²

⇒ s = 0 + 2 × 400

⇒ s = 0 + 800

⇒ s = 800 m

Therefore,

Distance covered by body = 800 m
