Question:-

A body starts with an initial velocity of 20m/s and acceleration of 5m/s².Find the distance covered by it in 5s.

Solution:-

Given,

  • A body starts with an initial velocity of 20m/s with an acceleration of 5m/s²It takes 5sec time then find the distance covered by the body.

Where,

  • u = initial velocity
  • v = final velocity
  • a = acceleration
  • s = distance
  • t = time

We can find final velocity by using the first equation of motion:-

u = 20m/s ; a = 5m/s² ; t = 5sec ; v = ? ; s = ?

v = u + at

v = 20 + 5(5)

v = 20 + 25

\boxed{\bf{\color{yelow}{ \: v \:  =  \: 45m/s \: }}}

Now,

We can find distance by using the third equation of motion:-

s = ut + 1/2 at²

s = 20(5) + 1/2 × 5 × 5 × 5

s = 100 + 5 × 5 × 2.5

s = 100 + 62.5

\boxed{\bf{\color{yelow}{ \: s \:  =  \: 162.5m \: }}}
