so the body is thrown upwards and it reaches down again.it is thrown to a height h.thus the total distance covered by it is h while going up and again h while coming down...thus total distance is 2h and displacement is 0 as it has returned to its initial point

Explanation:

displacement is 0 as its final and initial position is same . but if we consider the length from ground to the maximum hieght x then the distance becomes 2x .
