A body travels from a to b at 40m/s and from b to a at 60 m/s. calculate the average speed and average velocity

=>Let the distance from a to b be x m

=> Total distance travelled = 2x m

=> Speed from a to b = 40 m/s

=> time taken while travelling from a to b

 =  \bf \:  \frac{distance }{speed}  =  \frac{x}{40}  \: sec

=> speed from b to a = 60 m/s

=> time taken while travelling from b to a

 =  \bf \:  \frac{distance}{speed}  =  \frac{x}{60} \: \:  sec

=> Total time taken

 =   \bf \:  \frac{x}{40}  +  \frac{x}{60}  =  \frac{5x}{120}  =  \frac{x}{24}  \:  \: sec

=> Average speed

 =  \bf \:  \frac{distance}{time}  =  \frac{2x}{ \frac{x}{24} }  = 48 \:  \: m {s}^{ - 1}

=> Average velocity
