Let the total distance is = s

As it travels in two halves then we need to find the time individually

The time taken in the 1st half is s/v1

The time taken in the 2nd half is s/v2

Now,the total time taken is s/v1 + s/V2 = s(v1 + v2)/v1*v2

Therefore the average velocity = 2s/[s(v1 + v2)/v1*v2]

                                                   = 2v1*v2/((v1 + v2))
