possion's ratio will be 0.5

a body undergoes no change in volume when it is subjected to a tensile force then the possion's ratio is....

using formula,

∆V/V = (1 - 2v) ∆L/L

where , V represents volume of body , L represents length of body and v represents possion's ratio.

as it is given, there is no change in volume when it subjected to a tensile force.

so, ∆V/V = 0

⇒0 = (1 - 2v)∆L/L

⇒v = 1/2 = 0.5

Given that,

A body undergoes no change in volume when it is subjected to a tensile force.

No change in volume means

\dfrac{\Delta V}{V}=0

We need to calculate the poisson ratio

Using formula of poisson ratio

\dfrac{\Delta V}{V}=(1-2\sigma)\dfrac{\Delta L}{L}

Where, \Delta V = Change volume

V = volume

\Delta L = Change length

L = length

\sigma = poisson ratio

Put the value into the formula

0=(1-2\sigma)\dfrac{\Delta L}{L}

\sigma=\dfrac{1}{2}

\sigma=0.5

Hence, The poisson ratio is 0.5.
