When a body subjected to a tensile force and it is undergoes no change in volume then the Poisson’s ratio is 0.5.

Explanation:

We have the formula,

∆V/V = (1 - 2ʋ) ∆L/L ….. (i)

Where

V = Volume of body

L = Length of body

ʋ = Poisson's ratio.

Here we are given that when the body is subjected to a tensile force then the body undergoes no change in volume

∆V/V = 0 ….. (ii)

Substituting eq. (ii) in (i), we get

0 = (1 - 2 ʋ)∆L/L

⇒ 2 ʋ = 1

⇒ ʋ = 1/2

ʋ  = 0.5

Thus, the Poisson's ratio will be 0.5.
