A body weighing 0.5 kg tied to a string is projected with a velocity of 10m/s the body starts whirling in a vertical circle if the radius of the circle is 0.8m find the tension in the string when the top of the circle​

  • Velocity of the body = 10 m/s
  • Radius of the circular path = 0.8 m
  • Tension on the string = ?

The tension on the string is equal to the centripetal force towards the centre

we know that,

centripetal \: force \:  =  \frac{m {v}^{2} }{r}  \\  \frac{0.5 \times  {(10)}^{2} }{0.8}  \\  \frac{0.5 \times 100}{0.8}  \\ 62.5

Therefore, the tension on the string is 62.5 N.
