Answer:

  • 10 gf
  • 10 gf

Explanation:

Given

  • Weight of body in air = 200 gf
  • Weight of body in water = 190 gf

To find

  • Loss in weight of body.
  • Upthrust on the body.

Solution

Loss in weight of the body:

  • 200 gf - 190 gf
  • 10 gf

Upthrust on the body = loss in weight of the body

  • 10 gf

A body weighs 200gf in air and 190 gf when completely immersed in water.

We have to find the loss in weight of the body in water and upthrust on the body.

Archimedes’ principle :

“when a particle is wholly or partially submerged in a liquid, it experiences a buoyant forces known as upthrust, is equal to the weight of the liquid displaced by the particle.”

∴ loss in the weight of body = weight of body in air - weight of body in water

here, weight of body in air = 200 gf

weight of body in water = 190 gf [when it is completely submerged ]

now, loss in the weight of body = 200gf - 190 gf = 10 gf

Therefore the loss in the weight of body is 10gf .

∵ buoyant force or upthrust = weight of liquid displaced by body = loss in the weight of body in water

= 10gf

Therefore the upthrust on the body is 10 gf.
