The body weight less in water because of buoyant force that water exerts on the body.

Whenever we immerse any object in the water it's weight become less because water exerts an upward force which makes the body lose weight and this force is called bouyant force.

The body would weigh less than the weight of the body in the air as because the applying upthrust or the buoyant force on the body by the water is in the opposite direction of its weight, ie, in the upward direction. So, due to the this force, the weight decreases.
