Given : A body with an initial velocity of 8m/s accelerates at the rate of 9cms-2. he distance covered by the body is 200m,

To find : time taken to cover the given distance

Solution:

Initial velocity u  = 8 m/s

acceleration a = 9 cm/s²  = 0.09 m/s²

Distance covered S = 200 m

S = ut + (1/2)at²

=> 200 =  8t   + (1/2)(0.09)t²

=> 0.045t² + 8t - 200 = 0

=>  t  = (- 8 + √(8² - 4(0.045)(-200)) )/( 2 * 0.045)

( -ve value is ignored and only positive is considered)

=> t  = 2/0.09

= > t = 200/9 sec

time taken to cover the given distance = 200/9 sec

= 22.222 sec
