Velocity of piece 1 = ?
mass of piece 2 = 12kg
Velocity of piece 2 = 4m/s
Momentum of piece 2 = 12x4 kg m/s
By momentum conservation,
Momentum of piece 2 = momentum of piece 1
12 ×4 = 4 × v
v = 12 m/s
Velocity of piece 1 = 12m/s
