The more number of pages should she read to complete half the book is (y-40)/2.

Given:-

Total pages in the book = y

Pages read by Haripriya = 20

To Find:-

The more number of pages should she read to complete half the book.

Solution:-

We can easily find out the more number of pages should she read to complete half the book by following these simple steps.

As

Total pages in the book = y

Pages read by Haripriya = 20

Half the number of pages in the book (x) = Total / 2

x =  \frac{y}{2}

Now, Half the number of pages in the book = pages Haripriya read + unread pages by Haripriya

On changing sides,

Unread pages by Haripriya = Half the number of pages in the book - pages Haripriya read

On forming the equation we get,

pages \: left =  \frac{y}{2}  - 20

pages \: left =  \frac{y - (20 \times 2)}{2}

pages \: left =  \frac{y - 40}{2}

Hence, the more number of pages should she read to complete half the book is (y-40)/2.
