A book placed on the surface of a table .The book is pushed in one direction .Draw the forces acting on the book and explain
Answers
Explanation:-
When a book is kept in a table The sum of all the forces acts on the book is 0.
That's why the system is in equilibrium condition.
But when we applied an external unbalanced force in the book it started motion in the direction of unbalanced force.
Let's know which types of forces acts on it.
Gravitational force (g) → Earth attract every object towards its centre on the virtue of mass.
Contact force→ When an object are in contact with other object then a contact force is applied between two object.
Contact force always acts obliquely to the surface of contact.
By using of resolution of vector.
We resolved contact force in other two types of forces:-
1) Normal force → It is the part of contact force which acts perpendicular to the contact surface.
2) Friction force → It is also the part of contact force which acts along the contact surface.
The fiction force is the force which opposes the motion of an object over the surface of other object.
Characteristics of friction force:-
- It is electromagnetic in nature.
- It always acts opposite to the force.
- It is self adjusting force which can adjust it's direction and magnitude according to force.
- Friction force adjust it's magnitude up to a limit value known as limiting value of static friction.
When an object is in equilibrium condition.
Then,
All the forces balanced each other.
But when the object is not in equilibrium condition.
When an object is pushed with the force lower than the limiting value of frictional force then friction balanced the force.
Normal force balanced the weight force of the object.
In case of table it is balanced by normal force of table which follow Newton 3rd law.
