Question:-

A book seller bought 50 copies of magazine at the rate of Rs180 for four copies. He spent Rs 50 on transport. At what price would he sell 50 copies to make a profit of 50 percent.

Given data :-

{ Cost price = C.P; Selling price = S.P }

Here,

• Cost of 4 copies of magzine is Rs 180

• Seller spent Rs 50 on transport.

Solution:-

To find cost of 50 copies of magzine

{divide by 4 [copies] & multiply by 180 [rate of 4 copies of magzine] to 50 [copies]}

—› C.P of copies of magzine

= Rs [{50/4180]

—› C.P of copies of magzine

= Rs [12.5×180]

—› C.P of copies of magzine

= Rs 2250

{ According to given }

Seller spent Rs 50 on transport

Hence,

Total spending cost

= [C.P of copies of magzine] + [Seller spent Rs 50 on transport ]

Total spending cost = Rs {2250 + 50}

Total spending cost = Rs 2300

Here, we use formula to find profit

—› Profit% = {Profit×100}/Total spending cost

—› 50 = {Profit×100}/2300

—› 50 × 2300 = Profit × 100

—› 115000 = Profit × 100

—› Profit = 115000/100

—› Profit = Rs 1150

Now, to find S.P of 50 copies to gain 50% profit percentage .

—› S.P = Total spending cost + Profit

—› S.P = 2300 + 1150

—› S.P = Rs 3450

Hence, seller need to sell 50 copies at Rs 3450 to make a profit of 50%.
