Given :

  • Width of the border = 4cm
  • Each side of the painting = 40cm

To Find :

  • Area of the border.

Solution :

Firstly, we will find the area of the painting excluding the border after that we will find the area of the painting including border. After finding the areas we will substract the areas to get the area of the boder.

Side of the painting including border :

  • Orginal side + Width = Outer side
  • 40 + 4 = Outer side
  • 44cm = Outer side

Area of the painting excluding border :

  • Area = (side)² [Area of Square]
  • Area = Side × Side
  • Area = (40 × 40) cm²
  • Area = 1600 cm² (1)...

Area of the painting including border :

  • Area = (side)² [Area of Square]
  • Area = Side × Side
  • Area = (44 × 44) cm²
  • Area = 1936 cm² (2)...

Area of the Border :

  • Area of border = (2) - (1)
  • Area of border = (1936 - 1600) cm²
  • Area of border = 336 cm ²

Therefore :

  • Area of the Border is 336cm²
