Given :

A bottle contains 8 marbles : 3 are red and 5 are blue.

To find :

The probability of picking a Blue marble

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Find total number of possible outcomes

Here it is given that a bottle contains 8 marbles : 3 are red and 5 are blue.

Total number of marbles = 8

So the total number of possible outcomes = 8

Step 2 of 3 :

Find total number of possible outcomes for the event

Let A be the event that of picking a Blue marble

Total number of blue marbles = 5

So total number of possible outcomes for the event A is 5

Step 3 of 3 :

Find the probability

Hence the required probability

= P(A)

\displaystyle \sf{  =  \frac{Number \:  of  \: favourable \:  cases \:  to \:  the \:  event \:  A }{Total \:  number  \: of \:  possible \:  outcomes }}

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{5}{8} }
