Required Answer :

  • Probability (Blue marbles) = 1/3
  • Probability (Yellow marbles) = 3/7
  • Probability (Not back) = 16/21

Given :

• A box contains some marbles :

  • Blue marbles = 7
  • Yellow marbles = 9
  • Black marbles = 5

To find :

• Probability that the marble taken out is :

  • (a) Blue
  • (b) Yellow
  • (c) Not black

Solution :

⇒ Total outcomes = 7 + 9 + 5

⇒ Total outcomes = 21

Probability that the marble taken out is blue :

⇒ Possible outcomes (Blue marbles) = 7

⇒ Probability (Blue marbles) = Possible outcomes ÷ Total outcomes

⇒ Probability (Blue marbles) = 7/21

Probability (Blue marbles) = 1/3

Probability that the marble taken out is yellow :

⇒ Possible outcomes = 9

⇒ Probability (Yellow marbles) = Possible outcomes ÷ Total outcomes

⇒ Probability (Yellow marbles) = 9/21

Probability (Yellow marbles) = 3/7

Probability that the marble taken out is not black :

⇒ Possible outcomes = 7 + 9

⇒ Possible outcomes = 16

⇒ Probability (Not back) = Possible outcomes ÷ Total outcomes

Probability (Not back) = 16/21
