Given : a box contains 10 pins. 3 are blue 7 are green. two pins are taken out of the box without replacement

To find : probability that both pins are the same colour

Solution:

Box contains 10 pins

Blue = 3

Green = 7

Total Number of ways two pins can be selected = ¹⁰C₂  = 45 Ways

Number of Ways Both Blue   =  ³C₂  = 3 Ways

Number of Ways Both Green   =  ⁷C₂  = 21 Ways

Total Ways  both pins are the same colour  = 3 + 21 = 24

Probability  that both pins are the same colour  = 24/45

= 8/15

probability that both pins are the same colour = 8/15
