SOLUTION

GIVEN

A box contains 4 choco-bars and 4 ice creams.

Tom eats 3 of them one after another.

TO DETERMINE

The probability of sequentially choosing a choco-bars and ice cream

EVALUATION

Here it is given that the box contains 4 choco-bars and 4 ice creams.

Tom eats 3 of them one after another.

We have to find probability of sequentially choosing a choco-bars and ice cream

Total number of choco-bars and ice creams in the box

= 4 + 4

= 8

We have choose choco-bars first

Number of choco-bars = 4

So the probability

\displaystyle\sf{ =  \frac{4}{8} }

One choco-bar removed

Total number of choco-bars and ice creams in the box

= 4 + 4 - 1

= 7

We have choose choco-bars now

Number of choco-bars = 3

So the probability

\displaystyle\sf{ =  \frac{3}{7} }

Two choco-bar removed

Total number of choco-bars and ice creams in the box

= 4 + 4 - 2

= 6

We have choose ice creams now

Number of ice creams = 4

So the probability

\displaystyle\sf{ =  \frac{4}{6} }

Hence the required probability

\displaystyle\sf{ =  \frac{4}{8} \times  \frac{3}{7} \times  \frac{4}{6}   }

\displaystyle\sf{ =  \frac{1}{7}  }
