Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

no.of pens = 50

no.of pencils = 150

no.of pens broken = 50/2

                                = 25

no.of pencils broken = 150/2

                                    = 75

p(of getting a broken item ) = 150+50/25+75

                                                = 200/100

                                                = 2

i guess this is correct

Answer:

The probability of choosing a broken item is \frac{1}{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

Total no. of pens = 50

Total no. of pencils = 150

Therefore, total no. of pens and pencils = 50 + 150

                                                                   = 200

Given that half of the pens and pencils are broken

=> No. of broken pens = \frac{1}{2} * 50

                                      = 25

=> No. of broken pencils = \frac{1}{2} * 150

                                      = 75

Therefore, total no. of broken pens and pencils = 25 + 75

                                                                                = 100

Therefore, probability of a broken item = \frac{Broken}{Total}

                                                                  = \frac{100}{200}

                                                                  =  \frac{1}{2}

Therefore, the probability of choosing a broken item is \frac{1}{2}
