Given

  • Area of a box is 1.9 m²
  • The box exerted a force of 4.7 kN

To Find

  • The pressure applied by the force?

Solution

⨳ Pressure is equal to the quotient of force and area

⨳ SI UNIT of pressure is Pascal(Pa), 1 Pa = 1N/m².

⨳ Dimension : |M¹L⁻¹T⁻²|

⨳ There are three types of pressure, namely,

  1. Atmospheric Pressure
  2. Gauge Pressure
  3. Absolute Pressure

Formula :-

›› Pressure = Force/Area

Substituting the values,

➝ Pressure = 4.7/1.9 kN/m²

➝ Pressure = {4.7×10}/{1.9×10}

➝ Pressure = 47/19

➝ Pressure = 2.48 kN/m²

∴ The Pressure is 2.48 kN/ for the applied force

Let's try to understand

  • So here we saw that the formula for Pressure is Force/Area this is because pressure is defined as the force with which it applies on an area that is say if you're keeping your hand on a table then the area that you hand covers will have a force applied on it which is the pressure
  • More the area less will be the pressure and lesser the are more is the pressure lesser will be the pressure
