A box of mass M is lying on the flat bed of a pickup truck as shown. The truck is moving with a uniform velocity of 15 m/s. What is the value of force of friction between the mass and the bed of the truck?

Answer:

let the mass of the truck be M then friction force on it is

F=μMg=Ma

a=μg=0.9g

time for truck to come at rest

Vf=Vi+at

0=15−0.9gt

t=35s

friction between crate and truck surface is

F=mμkg

a=0.7g=7m/s2

so relative acceleration is 9−7=2m/s2

the distance the crate will travel is

S=ut+21at2

S=0+21×2×(35)2

S=2.77m
