Loss is 16.67%.

Given:

  • A boy bought 3 dozen apples at rs. 30 per dozen.
  • After selling 30 apples at the rate of rs.26 per dozen, he reduced the rate to rs.6 per dozen.

To find:

  • Find the percentage loss?

Solution:

Concept/Formula to be used:

\bf Loss \%=  \frac{CP - SP}{CP}  \times 100 \\

Step 1:

Find the cost price of apples.

ATQ,

CP of 1 dozen apples is ₹30.

CP of 3 dozens of apples 3 \times 30 \\

 = 90 \\

Thus,

CP of 3 dozen apples is ₹90.

Step 2:

Find the Selling price of all apples.

SP of 30 apples (2.5 dozen) = 26 \times 2.5 \\

 = 65\\

SP of 6 apples (1/2 dozen apples)  =  \frac{1}{2}  \times 20\\

 = 10 \\

SP of 3 dozens of apples =65 + 10

 = 75 \\

Thus,

SP of 3 dozons of apples is 75.

Step 3:

Find the % loss.

CP = ₹90

SP= ₹75

 Loss\:\% =  \frac{90 - 75}{90}  \times 100\\

Loss\:\% =  \frac{15}{90}  \times 100\\

Loss\:\% =  \frac{1}{3}  \times 50\\

\bf Loss =  16.67\:\%

Thus,

Loss is 16.67%.
