The "distance covered by the boy" on foot is 5 kilometers.

Given:

Total distance covered by the boy is 20 km

"Partly on foot" at the rate of 5 km/h

"Partly on bicycle" at the rate of 10 km/h

To find:

Distance covered on foot.

Solution:

Consider the time taken for the distance travelled by foot as x

Then, the time taken for the distance travelled by bicycle as (2.5 - x)

Total \ distance = Distance \ travelled \ by \ the \ foot + Distance \ travelled \ by \ bicycle

We know that,

Distance = Velocity \times Time

20 \Rightarrow(5 x+10(2.5-x)) \rightarrow(i)

20 \Rightarrow(5 x+25-10 x)

(20-25) \Rightarrow(-5 x)

-5 \Rightarrow-5 x

x=1

The distance travelled by the foot at the rate of 5 km/hr,

Distance = Velocity \times Time

Then,

The \ distance \ travelled \ by \ the \ foot =5 \times x

=5 \times 1

Therefore, Distance travelled by the foot = 5 km
