Answer:

avg.speed=total d/total t

s1=d1/t1

35=d1/2

d1=70

s2=120/3=40

avg.speed=190/5=38km/hr

Given :

Time taken to cover

first part of journey ( t1) = 2 hrs

Speed for first part of journey (S1) = 35km/h

Time taken to cover

second part of journey (t2) = 3 hrs

distance travelled in

second part of journey (d2) = 120 km

To find :

the average speed of journey ( S.average) = ?

Formula :

S2 = d2

t2

S. average = S1 + S2

2

Solution:

S2 = 120

3

S2 = 40 km/h

S. average = 35 + 40

2

S. average = 75

2

S. average = 37.5 km/h

therefore,

the average speed is 37.5km/h .
