For 1st time,

D = 10 km

S = 40 km/hr

T = D / S

= 10 / 40

= 0.25 or 1 / 4 hr

For 2nd Time,

D = 10 km

S = 60 km/hr

T = D / S

= 0.17 or 1 / 6 hr

Average Speed = Total Distance / Total Time

= 20 km / (1/4 + 1/6)

= 20 / 10/24

= 20 × 24 / 10

= 48 km/hr
