Since the frictional force is more than the force alied, the block will not move as we need toapply a force greater than the force applied by friction to move the object
Hope it helps!

The result is that the force of 20 N acts in the direction of Frictional force.

GIVEN:- A boy exerts force of 40N on a block and 60N frictional force

TO FIND:- Result.

SOLUTION:-

  • A Resultant force is nothing but the total force which acts on a body comprising its directions. If the object is at rest or it moves with the same velocity then the resultant force should be equal to zero.
  • When all forces are that are acting in the same direction then the resultant force should be the sum of all the forces.
  • According to the question, two boys exert forces of 40N on a block and 60N which is a frictional force acting in opposite directions on an object.
  • This means that one higher force goes with a plus sign and the other force which is lesser goes with a minus sign.

Thus, the resultant force = Frictional force - Force exerted by a boy on an object

 = 60 - 40 \\ = 20 \: newton

Hence, the result is that the force of 20 N acts in the direction of Frictional force.
