a) The weight of the water displaced increases (To balance the additional weight of the boy, the boat sinks sinks deeper, displacing more liquid and thus increasing the buoyant force according to archimedes rule)
b) The buoyant force increases due to increase in the weight of the liquid displaced (according to archimedes principle).
