A boy has 2 pants and 4 shirts.
Let the pants be pant 1 and pant 2
He can were pant 1 with all the 4 shirts.
Which means 4 pairs.
He can wear pant 2 with all the 4 shirts.
Which is equal to 4 pairs.
4+4 = 8 pairs
But you don't need to do all this. You can simply multiply the number of pants with the number of shirts.
2×4 = 8 pairs
Hence, He can have 8 different pairs.
Hope this helps :)
