Answer:

Suppose after x years the mother is twice as old as her son.

Mother is now 37 years old. So after x years she will be 37 + x years.

Son is now 10 years old. So after x years he will be 10 + x years.

Therefore we have 37 + x = 2(10 + x)

=> 37 + x = 20 + 2x

=> x = 17.

So after 17 years mother will be twice as old as her son.

Mother' age after 17 years = 37+17=54

Son's age after 17 years = 10+17 = 27.

Clearly, 54 is twice 27.

{\huge{\underline{\boxed{\red{\mathcal{Answer}}}}}}

Given:

  • Current age of a boy = 10years
  • Current age of mother = 37years

To Find:

  • The years' time at which the mother be twice as old as her son

Solution:

Let the time taken be x years

So, atq

=> 37 + x = 2(10 + x)

=> 37 + x = 20 + 2x

=> 2x - x = 37 - 20

=> x = 17

So, in 17 years, the mother will be twice as old as her son.

Verification:

Age of son after 17 years = 10 + 17 = 27years

Age of mother after 17 years = 37 + 17 = 54years

And we know that, 27*2 = 54

Hence proved too!!
