Answer:

2m/s

Explanation:

When a boy walks towards a mirror he covers a distance of one meter per second. His image lies behind the mirror at the same distance as he is from the mirror.

Now consider he is, say, at a distance of 8 meters from the mirror at an instant. Since he is moving at 1 m/s, in the next second he will be at a distance of 7 meters from the mirror. Now consider his image. His image was 8 meters away from the mirror on the other side when he was at a distance of 8 meters from the mirror. After a second, since he is now 7 meters away from the mirror his image is now exactly 7 meters away from the mirror on the opposite side. Thus his image also moved one meter in one second and is moving at 1 m/s with respect to the mirror, similar to the boy.

The catch is that the question is asking the speed of the image relative to the boy. In the beginning, when the boy was 8 meters from the mirror, the distance between him and the image was 16 meters. After a second it became 14 meters. Thus his image approaches him at 2 m/s.
