Exact Question:-

A boy leaves his house at 9.30AM for his school. The school is 2 Km away and classes start at 10.00 Am. If he walks at a speed of 3 Km/hr for the first Km at what speed should he walk the second Km to reach just in time?

Exact Answer:-

Distance = 2 km

Total time = 30 min = 0.5 hour

Initial speed = 3km/h for first 1 km

Hence time taken = distance/speed = 1/3 h

Time left = 0.5 - 1/3 = 0.5/3 h

Distance left = 1 km

Hence speed at which he should walk the second km would be

1/(0.5/3) = 6 km/h
