Home - 5/2 km away
2/5 distance - 2/5 (5/2) = 1
Then distance left - 5/2 - 1 = 3/2 = 1 and a half km more.

1\dfrac{1}{2} km remained.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Total distance = 2\frac{1}{2} km = \frac{5}{2} km,

2/5 of total distance = 2/5 of \frac{5}{2}

=\frac{2}{5}\times \frac{5}{2}

= 1

∵ He has covered 2/5 part of the total distance,

Thus, the remaining distance = total distance - covered distance

=\frac{5}{2}-1

=\frac{5}{2}-\frac{2}{2}

=\frac{5-2}{2}

=\frac{3}{2}

=1\frac{1}{2} km
