Answer:

a. Kinetic energy-20J

b. Potential energy-960J

Explanation:

From the question we have the following data:

The mass of the boy(m)=40kg

The speed with which the boy is running(v)=1m/s

Distance between two consecutive floors=12m

The boy is on the second floor of his school.

Kinetic Energy(K.E.)

K.E.=\frac{1}{2}mv^2    (1)

Inserting the entities in equation (1) we get;

K.E.=\frac{1}{2}\times 40\times 1^2

K.E.=20\ J     (2)

Potential Energy(P.E.)

P.E.=mgh       (3)

g=acceleration de to gravity=10m/s²

h=height at which the body is present=24m

Placing values in equation (3) we get;

P.E.=40\times 10\times 24

P.E.=960\ J       (4)

So, the kinetic energy and potential energy of the boy are 20J and 960J respectively.
