"The initial momentum of the system = momentum of the boy + momentum of the trolley = (60 x 30) + (140 x 1.5)

Delta P1 = 180 + 210 = 390 Ns

Final momentum of the system delta P2 = mass of the body and trolley x common velocity

Delta P2 = (60 + 140)v = 200 v

By the law of conservation of momentum,

Delta P1 = Delta P2

390 = 200v

V = 1.95 m/s
