Given :- A boy paid 11$ for a bottle with cork The bottle cost 10$ more than the cork.What is the cork price ?

Answer :-

Let us assume that, the bottle price is $x and cork price is $y .

so,

→ x + y = $11 --------- Eqn.(1)

and,

→ x - y = $10 --------- Eqn.(2)

adding both,

→ x + y + x - y = 11 + 10

→ 2x = 21

→ x = $10.5

then,

→ 10.5 + y = 11

→ y = 11 - 10.5

→ y = $0.5

hence, cork price is $0.5 .

SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • A boy paid $ 11 for a bottle with cork

  • The bottle cost $ 10 more than the cork.

TO DETERMINE

The price of the cork

EVALUATION

Let the price of the cork = $ x

Now it is given that the bottle cost $ 10 more than the cork.

So cost of the bottle = $ ( x + 10 )

Again it is given that the boy paid $ 11 for a bottle with cork

So by the given condition

x + x + 10 = 11

 \implies \sf{2x + 10 = 11}

 \implies \sf{2x  = 1}

 \implies \sf{x  = 0.5}

FINAL ANSWER

The price of the cork = $ 0.5
