A boy pushing a truck uses his energy to do this work, but the truck does not move at all. Can you still say that the boy is doing some work? Why?

Answer:

The boy is not doing any mechanical work.

This is because:

Work=F×d,

where, F is force and d is displacement.

If the truck does not move, there is no displacement done.

Hence there is no mechanical work done.

However, biologically, the boy uses energy which is transferred to the truck but is insufficient to have some work done.
