The distance travelled = 100 m

Therefore,
Time = 100 / 8
= 12.5 seconds

In second case,

The speed = 5 m / s
Therefore,
Time = 200 / 5
= 40 seconds

From the two cases,
Total distance = 200 + 300 = 500m
Total time = 12.5 + 40 = 52.5sec
Average speed = total distance / total time
= 500 / 52.5
9.52 m / s

Therefore,
The average speed for both situations is
9.25 meters per second.....
