this is a maths question...

distance = 100 + 50 = 150 m

Displacement = √(100^2 + 50^2)

                       = √(10000 + 2500)

                       = √(12500)= √ 125 x 10 x 10

                       = 10√ 5 x 5 x 5 =  50√5 m

hope it helps

(i.) Therefore the distance traveled by the boy is 150 m.

(ii.) Therefore the magnitude of displacement traveled by the boy is 50√5 m.

Given:

The distance traveled by the boy in the east direction = 100 m

The distance traveled by the boy after turning left = 50 m

To Find:

The distance and displacement traveled by the boy.

Solution:

The given question can be solved as shown below.

Given that,

The distance traveled by the boy in the east direction = 100 m

The distance traveled by the boy after turning left = 50 m

(i.) The distance traveled by the boy:

The distance traveled by the boy = ( distance traveled in the east direction ) + ( distance traveled after turning left )

⇒ The distance traveled by the boy = 100 + 50 = 150 m

Therefore the distance traveled by the boy is 150 m.

(ii.) The magnitude of the displacement of the boy:

The magnitude of displacement of the boy = shortest distance traveled

By Pythagoras theorem,

⇒ displacement = √(100² + 50² ) = 50√5

Therefore the magnitude of displacement traveled by the boy is 50√5 m.

(i.) Therefore the distance traveled by the boy is 150 m.

(ii.) Therefore the magnitude of displacement traveled by the boy is 50√5 m.
